Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

CHARLIE the Dog needs a home

MEET CHARLIE---

Charlie was adopted from a high-kill shelter about a year ago -- but the home he went to was far more social and active than the life he'd been used to. Neither he or his human were happy, so she made the selfless decision to find a home for Charlie that is quieter where he won't be as stressed at new circumstances.

Charlie bonds very closely with his owner, showing great affection whenever the owner is present. But he is apprehensive, barky and insecure when meeting new people. He gets stressed at new stuff - and he reacts by barking and threatening to "bite".  He hasn't bitten yet and we watch him closely and don't place him in a position where he might!  We have consulted a trainer and we are working on positive reinforcement when introduced to new people -- and... he has made progress. BUT he is still a work in progress and a patient dog savvy owner would be his ideal home.

We have determined that he does BEST in a home with another dog or dogs--- He doesn't do as well (barks more) when he is the only child.  He loves to be in your lap and loves to give kisses... He is 100% housebroken and is really a sweet little man with a couple quirks. eg.  in the morning when it's time to get out of bed and got outside to go potty, he walks behind me and love-nips me in the butt! (so maybe I can walk faster?) He is a funny little dog.

A strong calm, alpha owner (preferably would be best for this guy.  He really is sweet and affectionate but we need to convince him that he is safe!  He loves to play ball and brings it back!!

He is about 3 years old - neutered, up to date on all vaccines - micro-chipped - a spaniel -- perhaps a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix, housebroken, does not mark - dog friendly (no cats and probably no kids).  He is full grown at about 20 lbs. and really is a nice little guy (once he decides he likes you (generally takes 2-3 days -- and THEN he is your new BEST FRIEND!).  He will be re-homed to the immediate area (Broward/Dade/Palm Beach counties) only.

Re-homing fee:  $200

NOTE: Adoption/rehoming fees are applied towards the vet bill: Exam, blood tests, vaccinations, fecal, worming, spay/neuter, and microchip. There is rarely anything left over, but if that happens, the monies get applied to the next or previous pet - who may have had to have an x-ray, be groomed or have a dental.
